In reflection after reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I decided to illustrate a portrait of the author, Hunter S. Thompson. The maze inside of him is meant to reflect how the story is told from his perspective as Raoul Duke, which also mirrors the development of the gonzo journalism style. Gonzo journalism is a way of telling stories by stepping into the mind of the author and seeing what the author or writer was thinking or feeling as the narrative unfolds. I thought an illustration of the author would be relevant in demonstrating how he is depicting himself as the main character through his writing.
