Earning not Learning is a publication design focused on the subject of child labor.
While this topic of child labor is widely known, I do not think it is as widely discussed as it should be. The main areas of content include: what is child labor, where is child labor a problem, what are the different forms of child labor, how can individuals help end child labor, and the history of child labor. I chose to incorporate the definition of child labor, how it is often perceived in addition to statistics in order to highlight the importance of acknowledging child labor and then doing something about it.
The font choices in this publication are meant to make it seem both educational and also as though the children are teaching the reader about what is happening to them. The pull quotes are written in a font that reminded me of children's handwriting, as though the people who said the quotes are speaking in a child's voice, advocating for them from their perspective. The magnet lettering was designed in Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool, they are meant to resemble refrigerator magnets, used for teaching children letters or how to spell; or in other words, what children should be doing instead of working.
